Epic Paddle Races

4 paddle events that work together as one massive Susquehanna River Race!

The concept is simple:

- One mass start of all types of paddle craft.

- Different categories based on vessel.

- Different distances based on ability.

- One registration cost for all - $30/boat.

Teams theoretically get a deal here, as it costs only $15/person!

STRATEGY NOTE - due to the arrangement of this race, you won't know who you are racing against!  A little devious gamesmanship can go far here.  Plan accordingly!

STEP 1.

Line up cross river for the starting gun.  After the start, safely make your way to river right.

STEP 2.

Paddle your chosen vessel to the distance you feel you can achieve.  The different distances are shown on the specific race maps below.  Each turning point will be demarcated by race bibs attached to buoys that will be anchored in the river at distances of 5K, 10K, Half-marathon, and Marathon as a function of round trip distances.  Paddle as far as you can (or to your predetermined distance), upriver, and realize that once you grab your flag, you still have to paddle back to the start location.

STEP 3.

Rip-off the bottom tear-away portion of the bibs that are attached with rope to the marker buoys.  This is most easily done by paddling between the two marker buoys at each location, and simply reaching down, into the water, and ripping off the bottom strip of the race bib.  This strip is important, as it now locks you into a particular race distance.  Make sure you hang onto it, as if you lose it, you'll have to go get another, or be disqualified.

STEP 4.

When you return to the starting location (Riverside Adventure Company shoreline), you must pull your boat out of the water at least 30' from shore, and then deliver your bib strip to the proper tally board for your category.  Write your name on the bib strip, and staple it to the board.  We'll add your official race time to your bib strip as soon as it's attached.  The boards will be layed-out pre-race, so you can know exactly were you need to go, before you begin the race.

STEP 5.

CONGRATULATIONS! You did it!  Now catch your breath, listen to some music, get some food and wait for the awards ceremony!

Our beginning paddler challenge. Not to be mistaken with "easy".  Going up river even this far, is a good challenge for many paddlers.

A sizable challenge in the Danville/Riverside section of river.

13.1 miles of paddling (depending on water speed).  6.5 miles upstream means a true challenge.

The MAC-DADDY!  26.2 miles of river paddling.  Half up river, and it gets harder as you get closer to the halfway turn around point.  Good luck!
