Dirty Grin Susquehanna River Paddle Trips

The Water

The Susquehanna River is class 1 water (easiest) and offers Adventurers, very scenic, historic, peaceful and quiet paddling opportunities. There are a few “riffles” on the water on this section that might give you a little momentary excitement… but nothing dangerous. If you go out of the boat for some reason (very rare), stay with the boat, and swim it to shallow water (which is typically just about the entire river).

How long?

The trip from Bloomsburg to Danville takes about 5± hours depending on river and weather conditions. This is not set in stone, and it might take you longer or shorter depending on how you paddle. You are under no obligation to get back at a specific time. However, if we don’t see your boat by nightfall, we will inquire about you.

The Start

We start at Riverside Adventure Company - 476 D & H avenue, Riverside, PA 17821. If that address doesn’t work in your GPS, try 100 Avenue D&H north, Riverside, PA 17821. It’s both the same address, but some GPS systems seem to work better with different addresses. Be on time. We can’t wait and leave late.

What you need

  • Fitness - You will need to be of reasonable fitness. Although paddling is not a “strenuous” activity, it doesn't require you to paddle and that is a full body activity (if done properly). If you don’t feel confident in your abilities, maybe rent a double boat and pair-up with someone.

  • Water - the very best way to ruin your trip is to not have enough water. Paddling and baking in the sun for 5+ hours is no fun without water.

  • Sun screen - the second best way to ruin a paddling trip is to realize you are going to get fried for 5 hours….and there is nothing you can do about it. Don’t be that person.

  • Snacks - Always a good idea. You might need a little fuel

  • A phone in at least two zip-lock bags - If you don’t have a waterproof case

  • Bonus stuff - fishing poles, super soakers, river shoes, floppy hats, whatever “floats your boat”.

Itinerary

12:30 p. - A quick look at your final destination “take out” location on the river and then our van leaves Riverside Adventure company. Don’t be late. We don’t have any wiggle room on this leaving time, as it’s a busy weekend.

1:00 p. - Arrive at the Bloomsburg town park or Rupert covered bridge “put in” location.

1:15 p. - Everyone is on the water, after a brief lesson in paddling.

1:15 - 5:30 p. - on the river paddling

Finish

You can be finished when you want to be finished. There is no rush. You will not be charged more if you go past 5:30 p. Simply pull the boat up on the back when you are finished, and you can return to your car (or bike) parked at Riverside Adventure Company at your leisure. It’s what we call “river time” and it’s very laid-back. Put your paddle and pfd in your boat. We will let you know if we don’t get everything back, or if there is any problems. Otherwise, if you don’t hear from us…everything is cool. Hope you had a great adventure, and saw many interesting sights!
