Boating Lessons (Level 1) 11 am
11am - 12pm
How to hold the paddle. How to adjust a personal floatation device (PFD). How to adjust your boat. Some basic strokes. How to be safe. About 50% on land, and 50% on water.
In a beginner kayak paddling class, it is essential to cover a set of fundamental skills that will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and techniques for a safe and enjoyable kayaking experience.
Basic paddle strokes, such as the forward stroke, sweep stroke, and draw stroke, ensure participants can efficiently maneuver and control their kayak.
Proper body posture and balance are crucial to maintain stability and prevent capsizing. Skills like edging the kayak and bracing should be practiced to enhance balance and react to potential hazards. Participants should be educated on self-rescue techniques, including the importance of wearing a personal flotation device and proper wet exit procedures.
Basic navigation, understanding different water conditions, and weather awareness are vital to ensure beginners can make informed decisions and navigate safely on the water.
